About contemporary art: unique art installations.
I´ve already written twice about contemporary art installations, best modern art installations (which had lots of success and includes a list of recommended books) and art installations II.
One of the most amazing things about contemporary art installations is the ability of artists that create them. They transform a small immaterial thought into big unique material expression. I call this process the literal alchemy of art.
If you are an artist (or entrepreneur) of any kind you know what I´m talking about. One thing is to sketch an idea, and a very different one is to transform it into a huuuuge “committed and valuable expression” that works. Only a very few are able to do it.
You are about to see three good examples. Enjoy them!!!
The Making of “Painting Air: Spencer Finch” from RISD Museum of Art.
American artist Spencer Finch may perfectly be one of this art alchimists. His 2012 Painting Air installation at Museum of Art Rhode Island School of Design it´s a good example.
This installation consists of more than 100 panels of suspended glass of varying reflectivity that distort the wall mural. According to what I´ve read, it´s an abstraction of …¿?¿?¿?¿?¿….. I encourage you to guess its meaining on the comment section at the bottom of this article.. It´s a good creativity exercise!!
As american artist EVday explains “The loaded metaphor of battling brides in mid-explosion is an ecstatic expression of liberation and transformation, while vestiges of tradition remain recognizable, and intact”. Do you get it :)? The truth is that besides what is explained, the more I look at the installation the more I see two angry brides tearing their new dresses in orther to free themselves. Do you share this vision or do you have another one ? If so, go ahead and share it!!
EVDay describes her work as “futurist abstract paintings in three dimensions”, and I would say that she is absolutelly right. The inner concept, the absolute image power, and the magnificent execution make this installtion one of the most unforgetable I´ve ever seen.
The final one lies between sculpture and art installation. Subodh Gupta’s Ray, 2012, is a giant steel bucket with a cascade of smaller ones falling out of it. (sorry but the image got dameged)
Some art critics call Gupta the Damien Hirst of India. Even if this is true or if you see Duchamp´s influence in his art, please applaud !! ´cose it´s not that simple to make the above happen. I see multiplication, mass production, mas vomiting of objects. Or maybe it explains that we individuals are able to create unique things that multiplication transforms into accumulative garbage. Hello Queta. You obviously don’t see the brides cose there are no brides even if the artist gives us ths message in the title. Thanks for exploring and sharing your creativity.

I like the work of Tadashi Kawamata. Although I missed the installation in New York’s Madison Square Park in 2008
