Has it happened to you seeing contemporary modern art of distinc execution, serene beauty (what ever you consider it to be), unique aesthetics and unforgetable personality?

The above is one of Laurent “lo”´s elegant abstract sculptures. His new exhibition can be enjoyed in Barcelona these days. (details at the end).

Yesterday was the first time I saw Laurent “Lo”´s abstract sculptures “a live”. Because yes, they are alive. Some of them make a subtle and elegant rotational movement that makes them even more interesting.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to talk to Laurent. He gave some clues about his abstract art and how enthusiastic he is about Bamboo. He mentioned words like: inescapable, rotundity, own mathematical rules, and anti ego sculpture (meaning that bamboo has it´s own rules and as an artist he has to inevitably adapt to them… ALWAYS).

Alexander Calder surprised the world many decades ago with his mobile sculptures. To me, there are some common things between Laurent “Lo” and Calder´s abstract sculptures, but there´s a main big difference between them. The inner beauty and serenity of Laurent´s bamboo sculptures is unthentically magical and metaphysical.

I  also find similarities between Laurent´s bamboo sculptures and Andy Goldsworthy´s land art. The ones that come to my mind are their mutual respect for nature´s mysteries and the inner serene emotion of both artists artworks.

How do you like Laurent´s abstract art?. What does it transmit to you?. Is there any contemporary artists whose art is unforgetable for you? Please add your comments below the exhibition details.

I am sorry I am not in Barcelona now to see this exhibit. Laurent’s sculptures are calmly mesmerizing. During my last visit to Barcelona I visited the studio of another sculptor, Carlos Mujica, whose work I really love. He builds his sculptures using found materials – mostly wood and metal. His artwork can be seen online: http://carlosmujica.timepirate.org
