Hi, I´m preparing some articles on the most admired XXth century Abstract Artists. The first one will talk about the 10 most admired Abstract Painters and I need your collaboration because the list will be based on your individual preferences (although you only need to share at least one abstract artist)
I know individual preferences change over time. I also know it´s quite difficult to choose among so many XXth century abstract painting masters. So right now, which is or are your favorite XX century abstract painters?. (add at least 1 preferred artist)
Please share the abstract artist name or names below in the comment section. If you want to add why do you like them the most, please do so.
My preferred ones are: Piet Mondrian, Manuel Millares, Mark Rothko, Joan Miró and Cy Twombly (who died last year but started his abstract art in the mid XXth.)
pd: I will prepare the final list at the end of April 2012. It will include all facebook, twitter, linkedin, google+, pinterest and wordpress participation.
ps: If you have enjoyed this post rate it or press the like button below and share it (by pressing any of the social media icons below) to help get more responses and a bigger representational world sample.
Thanks

Hi there! I would have Clyfford Still in there, for his art AND his attitude.
April 16, 2012 - 1:52 pm
Hi Glennie, thanks for sharing your preferences. If possible share the post whith others in order to get more a more people abstract painters preferences.
Best Regards and thanks again for collaborating.
ps: By the way, Clyfford Still has 2 votes already
April 16, 2012 - 1:03 pm
Clyfford Still is a new force to be reckoned with in the world of contemporary abstract art. Although not well known when abstract expressionism was popular, he was the first to create compositions devoid of any naturalistic, recognizable subject matter. His philosophy that abstract art should not be or could not be explained and analyzed is one that I abide by in my own work.
April 16, 2012 - 1:54 pm
Hi Edward, again thanks for your deep response. Truly thanks. Please share the article with as many people as possible in order to get as much collaborations as we can. Thanks

I don’t have a favorite, when it comes to Abstract Art, though I really like Mondrian’s Boogie Woogie (as shown above). This painting is not only beautiful, but it has been referenced many times.
April 16, 2012 - 10:10 pm
Hi Merriah, even if you don´t have a favorite thanks for sharing your ideas about Mondrian. Please share the article with your friends so we get a wider and most representative response.
Thks for collaborating

Good topic Antonio!
I’d go for Robert (& Sonia) Delauney, Rothko and Mondrian. I’d also throw Matisse into the mix if were allowed.

He mencionado a Pollock?
Conoce alguien pintores abstractos griegos?

April 17, 2012 - 2:33 pm

I can’t argue with anyone else’s choices, but the artist who had so many phases and who was so skilled and capable is Willem de Kooning- I think his important and influence is still not fully realized, even after the recent retrospective
April 17, 2012 - 9:08 pm
Hu X Yz, thaks for adding your preferences. I do agree with you on the importance of de Kooning.
Regards
Antonio Basso
Hi X Yz. I do agree with you in that de Kooning´s work is fundamental in terms of XXth abstraction. Great point and thks for participating. Feel free to share the article in your social media channels in order to get more world wide exposure and collaborations. Thanks and regards.
April 18, 2012 - 7:11 pm
Hi, as everybody said before, it is too difficult to choose just ten among all the abstract painters of XXth Century. I hope that forgotten ones can forgive me
The first one is, no doubt, Robert Motherwell. Nothing has touched me more that his Elegies to the Spanish Republic.
After him I must place Kazimir Malévich. One of my series is a tribute to him.
And I would also like to thank José Guerrero, Joan Miró, Wassily Kandinski and the Delaunays for their superb work.
April 18, 2012 - 7:13 pm
Excuse me, I can’t forget Paul Klee, one of my first discoverings when I was 15 or so.
April 18, 2012 - 7:17 pm

I would put Hans Hoffman at the top of my list since he was an Artist/Teacher and taught many of the leading abstract painters. Hofmann taught art for over four decades; his impressive list of students includes Helen Frankenthaler, Red Grooms, Alfred Jensen, Wolf Kahn, Lee Krasner, Louise Nevelson and Frank Stella. As well as his own significant work.
April 19, 2012 - 9:42 pm
Hello, I can not agree more with you. Thanks for sharing this helpful and “must know” abstract art history information.

It’s been mentioned before, but I think adding Kandinsky may be rather important.
April 21, 2012 - 5:06 pm
Hi Tavi, it doesnot not mind if Kandinsky has already been mentioned. Each time an abstract painter is named he gets one point. From the idea is to get the most voted.
Please help spreading the word by sharing the article.

Hi, are sculptors allowed, or just painters? I love Klee, Anselm Kiefer, Malevich, Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell; sculptors like Brancusi and Moore should be included!
Great idea…got me thinking & revisiting fond places
